Repeat Prescriptions

asthma Repeat prescriptions are issued provided they have been authorised by one of the Doctors.

Please give at least 24 hours notice when requesting a repeat prescription.

Prescriptions will be ready for collecting within 48 hours.

Prescription requests will not be taken by telephone before 11.00am.

Please ask at the reception desk for your unique log-in and password details.

We also have a red post box located just inside the entrance of Castle Mead Medical Centre on the corner wall especially for posting prescription requests. This is emptied morning and evening.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

From 1 April 2009, the charges are:

Prescription (per item): £7.20
12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £104.00
3-month PPC: £28.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC. The charge for a single prescription item is £7.20, whereas a three month PPC will cost you £28.25 and a 12 month PPC £104.00.

Used syringes and needles

The surgery will no longer be able to accept sharps containers from patients for disposal. However, there is a local arrangement in place with the Health Environment Team at Hinckley & Bosworth Council for the collection of used syringes and needles. They can be contacted on: 01455 238141.

The collection service is weekly on a Wednesday between 9am and 2pm. Residents must be at the property to hand over the boxes to the collection operative. Alternatively, the boxes can be delivered to the council works depot at Middlefield Lane, Hinckley, between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Can patients please note the following:

Please ask your Doctor to prescribe a sharps bin for you to discard your used syringes and needles into.
Place syringes and needles into the sharps bin.
When you have filled your bin 4/5 you must get a new one from your GP.

SURGERY IMPROVEMENTS

From 9th January we will be disrupted by building work. We are having three new consultations rooms and a new pharmacy built. The pharmacy is being run by Cohens Pharmacy independent of the surgery. Building work will mean a shortage of parking spaces. Please find alternative travel arrangements, park elsewhere or allow extra time before your appointment to find a parking place.
